HOW TO BE A GOOD LEADER

 Good leaders are created, not born. If you have the desire and will power, you can become a good leader. Good leaders are created by a never ending process of study, education, and experience.

At this time, I’ll try to explain what leadership is, ‘leadership’ is the ability to get extraordinary achievment from ordinary people. And the matter is people usually think the ordinary. That’s the reason why the world really needs leaders. We need someone to tell us the precious of life.

             Nuthobe and friends are workers. Now they are building a big onament at the center of this town. Salestinus, a scholar, asked Nuthobe, ‘What are you doing, Nuthobe?’  And then his responses were to complain that he is virtually a slave, an underpaid bricklayer who spends his days wasting time, placing bricks on top of one another. Salestinus asked him again, ‘What are you building?’ Nuthobe responed, ‘I’m not sure, no one leads us, he just acted like our boss, and he never showed that he is the leader, do you know his name, James?’ 

            Although your position as a leader gives you the authority to accomplish certain tasks, this power does not make you a leader… it simply makes you the boss. Leadership differs in that it makes the followers want to achieve high goals, rather than simply bossing people around. Leadership is the ability to get followers. Do people follow you willingly?

To help you be, and do as a leader, I would like to tell you some principles of leadership:

• Know yourself and seek self-improvement

Seeking self-improvement means continually strengthening your attributes. This can be accomplished through self-study, reflecting, and interacting with others.

• Make decisions on time

Find the key to overcome the problem. Fast tempo is essential for success, do it, try it, fix it. There are too many people who spend too much time to try making something perfectly before they really do it. Instead of waiting for perfection, run with what you’ve got and fix it as you go.

• Set the example

Be a good role model for someone else. They must not only hear what they are expected to do, but also see. Mahatma Gandhi said, “We must become the change we want to see.”

Keep asking yourself, ‘What kind of company would my company be if everyone in it is just like me?’

I would like to give you some major factors in leadership, they are: follower, communication, situation and also leader. Every factor is important to each other. When one of them infected, others will be infected too.

Ø      Follower

You must know your people! The fundamental point is to have a good understanding of human emotions, needs, and spirits. Different people need different method of leadership.

Ø      Communication

There are two kinds of communication, which can be used to communicate: nonverbal and verbal. Better is nonverbal. When you ‘set the example’, you communicate to others that you would not ask them to perform anything you would be willing to do. What and how you communicate, it would build the relationship between others and you.

Ø      Situation

What you do in one situation does not always work in another one. You must consider your judgement to decide the best action for each situation. React quickly to change in the situation. When you get new information, make new decisions.

Ø      Leader

You should have an honest understanding of who you are, what you know, and what you can do. When a person considers you a leader, she/he does not think about your attributes, instead, she/he observes what you do so that she/he can know who you really are. How could it be:

ü      Challenge the process

ü      Inspire  a share vision

ü      Enable others to act

ü      Model the way

“A boss tells others what to do… a leader shows that it can be done.

A boss says ‘GO!’ and a leader says ‘LET’S GO!’ ”
